4-month-old baby tests Covid-19 positive in Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: Four-month-old child in the district was tested positive for novel coronavirus infection on Wednesday.
District collector Jafar Malik said that the girl child of a couple from Payyanad near Manjeri in the district was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on April 21 with high fever and breathing difficulties, and her swab sample was tested positive on Wednesday.

According to district health administration the child was suffering from heart diseases and she was under treatment by doctors of Kozhikode Medical college hospital for last three months. After she developed some breathing difficulties on April 17 at her home in Payyanadu, she was taken to a private hospital in Manjeri. Though the doctors advised the parents of child to shift child to government medical college Manjeri, the child was shifted to another private hospital in Manjeri town. The girl was admitted there and continued treatment. On April 21, her health condition deteriorated and she was shifted to Kozhikode medical college.
Child's swab sample was collected for Covid-19 test on the same day and the virus infection was confirmed on Wednesday.
The girl has now been admitted to the ICU of isolation centre of medical college hospital.
So far a total of 20 persons were tested positive in Malappuram district. Among these 13 persons recovered from infection, including 85-year-old person from Keezhattur who recently died due to age related illness.
Apart from the four-month-old girl, six persons are under treatment at Manjeri medical college.

On Wednesday, district collector Jafar Malik said that seven gram panchayats were included in the revised lists of hotspots in the district.
Vengara, Chungathara, Thennala, Ozhur, Thalakkad, Kannamangalam, AR Nagar panchaytss were included in the revised list.
